For many artists, though, it serves as a source of inspiration, leading them to create work that examines the evolution of kitchen-related objects, food preparation and sharing. Table Manners offers a refreshing look at artwork and objects created from an imaginative range of materials, and celebrates decades of artists transforming the family table and kitchen devices into objects of beauty, whimsy and wit. The messages of the materials, and their very familiarity, add layers of content and the delight of recognition. Watercolor USA is a national organization whose purpose is to recognize, encourage and promote the pursuit of excellence in aqua-media painting. Egg Tempera Demonstration I recently gave a demonstration on egg tempera painting techniques. Egg tempera is a painting process that uses egg yolk to bind pigments. The paint is manufactured by the artist by mixing finely ground pigment, water and dilute egg yolk. Egg tempera painting is recognised as the second oldest medium after encaustic. It was used by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks and perfected by the icon painters during the last 100 years of the old Byzantine Empire. ![]()
